Someone in our house is having a birthday today! And I'm rather in love with him...
Happy Birthday Tim! I hope your day with us is a memorable one... :) Hadassah and I have a plan! Hour by hour he'll be opening a new card with a little note/surprise. And now I must go, because 9am needs to be opened very soon!

Someone is turning 5 tomorrow...
Any guesses as to who?
The house smells delicious. Cakes are being baked. And it'll look pretty festive in a couple of hours...for we are off to decorate.
Someone can't wait!
ps: Happy Birthday Dad!! 5 years ago, I thought you might have a granddaughter to share a birthday with. But Hadassah's pretty sneaky that way - she wanted her own day... Hope you have a great day!

Happy (belated) Birthday Tim!
So I'm squeezing this in at just under a month later. Tim might even want to forget about this day at this point, since he turned...
...but we can't let him forget, can we? No, I didn't think so. (he told me I cannot say how old he turned on my blog, but he never mentioned that I couldn't take pictures of decorations...! ha!)
The day started with Hadassah reminding him that she's Daddy's Little Girl by wearing her size 4 pj's. Why mention the size? Because although my daughter is 4 years old, nothing 4T fits her anymore! So when she wore these pj's just for her daddy, she had to squeeze into them. One glance at these two and you'd be correct in guessing that neither of them cared too much...
Hadassah and I spent much of the day in prep for when Tim came home. We baked a cake...
(epic fail on the cake, by the way!! i am no cake baker or decorator...!! lol)
We decorated...
We opened the door to some special guests and got to partying...
Tim and I went out for supper with some friends and so Hadassah only got to celebrate Tim's birthday for about an hour and a half...but I do believe she enjoyed every minute of it! (note the "birthday boy" badge Tim is wearing - Hadassah spotted it at the dollar store while we were gathering decorating supplies and just had to buy it for him to wear)
Despite your birthday being a month long gone, o husband of mine, I do hope you enjoyed your day. I certainly am blessed to have you for my best friend and husband, so it was a pleasure to celebrate it with you. Love you!

spring x twenty.nine
This is my twenty-ninth spring. And I'm loving it. Because how could
one not get excited about these sweet little sights in one's very own
garden:
Now onto the twenty-nine bit. That's the birthday I celebrated a few weeks ago. And I simply must share with you the sweetest, most thoughtful gift that I received from my husband. He knows I have a love for all things "period drama". Movie or mini-series, give me Pride & Prejudice, Larkrise to Candleford, North & South, and I'm a smiling girl. Imagine the smile on my face when I opened one of my presents to discover this:
Pages of piano music from my favorites! Theme songs, medleys, etc. All spiral bound. And I love me a spiral bound piano book.
So if you stroll by my house to take a closer look at those tulips and you hear me pounding out the theme song from Downton Abbey, North & South, know that it's being played with a smile. Thank you Timothy! (who didn't limit his spoiling and thoughtful gifts to this - but those are for another day).
Enjoy your spring days ahead!
I keep on noticing some rather lovely two-digit numbers in the forecast. Sweet spring-like winter days!"For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies, for the love which from our birth over and around us lies; Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. "

1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4
It seems that not so long ago I was writing a post with the title "1+1+1=3". It's amazing how fast one year goes. And equally amazing is how much happens and changes in one year.
How much older.
How much sweeter.
And yet, how much naughtier. :)
How many more memories. Ones that are actually remembered on their own without the prompting of stories or pictures.
How many more inches.
How many more phrases and tidbits of knowledge.
How many more facial expressions. And there are oh so many.
How much more love. It grows and grows and amazes me with it's steadiness.
And yet, how much fickleness. :)
How many mistakes.
How many lessons.
How many, many, many blessings.
How much busyness.
How much dancing. Oh so much dancing.
Happy Birthday Hadassah.
Four.
Now that's just crazy.
Here are some pictures of her actual birthday:
A special breakfast followed by the eagerly anticipated opening of presents...
...where this face happened a lot:
She had a iPad conversation with Grandma & Pa. Technology is pretty handy at times like this!
And I ran out of time to make a cake on her actual birthday, so this 'ice cream cake' did the trick:
And then came the party.
Her birthday was on a Wednesday and the invitations for a party on Saturday had gone out the week before. Was this kid ever exCITED!! She talked non-stop Saturday morning from the moment she woke up until the last guest arrived. It all began with the cake-pops...
...which I think her friends enjoyed...
And then she was completely overwhelmed with gifts from her friends. "Open mine next, Open mine next". It's sweet to see that giving really can be as much fun as getting. Each friend received a thank you hug because wow, she was so spoiled. My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, crafts, Moon Dough. Like I said...spoiled!
After gifts was some down-time where they all played up in Hadassah's bedroom. Out came the princess costumes and the Little People and the books and they had so much fun up there. Then just before lunch, it was necklace making time. Some of them were done after 5 beads, but others filled their whole string. All of them loved it.(So glad I found a huge bag of pink and purple beads at BFM awhile ago!)
After lunch and a little bit more playtime, it was time for everyone to go home. I think that it was so busy and crazy and fun that Hadassah was just fine with it when the time came. She then spent the rest of the afternoon playing with her gifts, quietly, contently and with a little smile on her face.
And do you know what the best part of it was for me? The moment I hear Hadassah yell out "This is the best birthday party ever!" in the midst of the squeals and giggles of the morning. Ah, thanks kiddo! I am so glad you liked it.
Happy Birthday. To my girl. (who is now sporting this haircut):

Last Month
Pictures. They accumulate at a regular pace and with so much life happening, I don't necessarily share them all on here. So I thought I'd dedicate a post strictly to the stuff of December.
I know. That was so last year.
But since last year wasn't all that terribly long ago, perhaps you'd like a peek anyway??
In mostly chronological order...
...starting off with making cookies. Sugar cookies. With painted on icing. Do you see that grin?! That kid had oh so much fun! This kid, the one who had to finish the rest of the huge batch while she painted a tray full, well, I wavered between smiling at Hadassah's gleeful giggles and sighing over the mess and chaos. The smiling won out most of the time.
We were rolling the very first 'lump' of dough and she already has flour on her nose.
*smile*
How she manages it, I do not know. But it was awfully cute.
Other baking adventures occured when Tim had his birthday at the beginning of the month.
Hadassah has been on a "family craft" kick lately. While the first shot is simply of her and her homemade Kool-Aid play-dough (I classify that as a craft in itself, don't you? especially when it included sparkles), the next three are more what she has in mind when she talks "family".
Then there was the closet space management, which you can read about here.
And then we have a couple of Christmas-esque shots. Here is one of the crafts that Hadassah and I made for Daddy as one of his gifts. Two puzzles. One of a picture of daddy & his girl - and another one of a picture Hadassah drew of the two of them playing pirates with Gus. She loved making it. He loved opening it.
Here is a very poorly lit picture of Christmas dinner, which I must say, turned out soooo delish! We had leftovers for days. (found a great recipe for leftover ham here).
LoveloveLOVE this shot of Hadassah, when she opened her Blueberry Muffin doll. A couple of days earlier she received a Strawberry Shortcake doll as a gift and with it came a little picture frame of Strawberry on one side and Blueberry on the other. Hadassah concluded that they were best friends, and so I thought Blueberry Muffin might be appreciated. She was. (oh wait...this is of her opening Lemon Meringue...who was also very appreciated. Those three are inseparable!)
These are Christmas-y only because this is the first time she got to embark on the journey of Finger Painting - another one of her gifts from us.
And slowing things down in the number-of-photos department (I promise we're coming to an end soon!), here is a general shot of the relaxing goofiness that happened over the holidays.
The end. Is next. Promise. For a long time I had newspapers hanging on the wall going up the stairs. Did we have any guests that didn't comment on it? Nope. Don't think so. It required this explanation: I'm doing a photo collage. Every newspaper is cut out in the shape of a frame I own that's ready to be put up there, and I fiddled with the newspapers to figure out what goes where. Brilliant, right? Can't take credit. Go pinterest! At any rate, all newspaper is finally off my wall!! Woot!! Final result?:
Disclaimer: By "final", I mean finally up on the wall. This does not mean that photographs, scrapbook paper and possibly even the number of frames will remain the same. It WILL change. I can guarantee it. But for now, I am satisfied with no newspaper. And look at that, you got a peek at some of my wintry decor too.
So. I can't wait to show you what Tim and I did today. I won't yet. I like to keep you on your toes. But let's just say, I've pinned this project a couple of times and have said "I must do this" so often. And now, it's almost complete and blog post ready.
Can you handle the anticipation?!?!
ps: another good read at girltalk.
